Stun Gun 101
I'll need to start by explaining what a stun gun is and how it is considered "non-lethal".
A
Stun Gun is a Personal Protection Device that uses electricity to "stun" an attacker and temporarily incapacitate them. Our muscles work by tiny electrical impulses. A stun gun does nothing more than overload and disrupt those electrical impulses.
Stun Guns are "non-lethal" due to the characteristic high voltage but very low current. Conversely, the electrical outlet in your home is low voltage and very high current. I like using the garden hose analogy to explain electrical voltage vs. electrical current. Let's say we have two garden hoses. One is a standard 1/2" diameter hose you use on a regular basis and the other is a whopping 12" in diameter. Since water pressure is determined primarily by the source of water, it remains constant at say, 60 psi (pressure) [the source of power in our stun gun is the battery]. We'll say this pressure is our "VOLTAGE". The water pressure "voltage" is the same in each garden hose. However, one hose has a much larger diameter than the other. Therefor, the larger diameter is capable of moving a larger volume of water. If we start filling our pool with the standard 1/2" garden hose, the pool will take 3 days to fill at the standard 60 psi water pressure. The 12" hose on the other hand, working at 60 psi will flow much more water through it. Our pool will fill up in 20 minutes rather than 3 days. Our 12" hose has more "CURRENT" running through it. Current is the AMOUNT of water being transferred (Current is also the term used for the Amount of flow of electrical energy in a circuit).
The electrical outlet in your home is low voltage but very high current. It flows a huge amount of electricity, usually between 15 and 25 Amperes of current. Our stun gun on the other hand is supplied by a very small battery with limited current. Many are powered by a 9-volt battery. A stun gun simply multiplies or steps up the Voltage but is limited to the current coming from a small battery. That is why stun guns are non-lethal. This is also the reason you will not get shocked when your attacker has a hold of you while you're zapping them! The stun gun does not have enough current to jump to your body.
Are Stun Guns Legal Everywhere?
No. Stun Guns are Restricted in some States. The mere possession may be a crime. Please check your State's stun gun laws before purchasing a stun gun. You may also call your local law enforcement office and ask about the Stun Gun Laws in your area.
I find it very troubling that some States restrict Stun Guns. Stun Gun restrictions make victims. Please be careful which knuckle-heads you vote into office. They are allowed a large, lethal security team on your tax dollars, you are not. That's where Showcase Stun Guns comes in.
The Different Shapes and Sizes of Stun Guns
There are many different shapes and sizes of stun guns. There are Small Stun Guns, Medium Stun Guns, Large Stun Guns and even Stun Batons that will keep attackers from even getting close. Some are even disguised to look like something else. The

There are also many stun gun voltages to choose from. You may choose a stun gun voltage from 80,000 volts all the way up to over
4 MILLION Volts. The standard self-defense stun gun is from 300,000 to 900,000 volts. The Stun Guns over 1 Million Volts are very loud and simply hitting the button will most likely keep attackers away. They'll stop and look for someone that isn't armed!
What is a TASER®?
TASER® is a Registered Trademark of Taser International. A TASER® is a device that shoots two darts at an attacker. The darts are connected to the hand unit with wires. When the darts hit the attacker the hand unit will begin sending an electrical charge through the wires to the darts incapacitating an attacker. Given these stun devices "shoot" projectiles, they are controlled. The units can only be activated after completing a background check by Taser International. Since the background check occurs after the purchase of a TASER® Device, we cannot offer refunds for these products.
Stun Gun Safety
Stun Guns are as safe as the person using them.
Always be aware of your surroundings and take notice of people or their absence thereof. That means don't walk through a dark parking lot with your head phones on. Find a partner to walk with. At the first sign of a threat, prepare your defensive products for use. Keep your awareness level heightened. It may be a matter of life or death.
Keep your batteries charged.
Most Stun Guns have a safety switch or pin along with the power switch. Don't leave home without your safety pin, it won't work without it.
Practice deploying your stun gun. I don't mean practice stunning your friend, they won't be your friend very long! I mean practice taking the stun gun out of your pocket or purse and get it ready to fire. The stun gun won't do you any good if you can't get it out of your pocket or purse.
Please remember that even though a stun gun is considered non-lethal, a non-lethal situation can turn into a lethal one. Check your surroundings and use your good survival sense.
