Tasers are not Stun Guns. We hear it all the time in Hollywood movies and in typical Hollywood fashion, they are ignorant of the difference between stun guns and TASERS.
The big difference is TASERs are better! It's not a Ford vs. Chevy thing. A TASER is only 50,000 volts. Not a bolt of lightening like some of the stun guns that are on the market. The difference is in the delivery of the shock. A stun gun touches the exterior of the body, against the skin to deliver a shock. The problem is the skin acts like an insulator, so a high voltage is required to stop an assailant. To add insult to injury, a stun gun must be pressed against certain "stun zones" for maximum effectiveness.
A TASER is much more effective in transferring voltage to an assailant. The reason for the increased effectiveness is the fact that the darts that are shot from a TASER stick into the skin, bypassing our natural insulator. The mere 50,000 volts now travels through the entire body via water, which is a conductor. Individuals hit with both the stun gun and TASER always claim the TASER is by far more crippling than the stun gun.
